This Week, Frank Sinatra SUNDAY November 9, 2008 at 8PM ET WITH DAUGHTERS TINA & NANCY SINATRA |
|
Francis Albert Sinatra was unquestionably one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century as well as one of its most fascinating personalities. From humble roots growing up on the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey, Frank was determined to make it in show business. He started out working in saloons, but eventually got work as a band singer, first with The Hoboken Four and then hitting the big time with Harry James and, later, Tommy Dorsey. Many have said that Frank Sinatra was a complex individual, generous to a fault. What no one can question, however, is the man’s incredible talent and the legacy he left the world. When it came to entertainment, Frank Sinatra truly was “The Chairman of the Board”. |

Next Week, John Wayne SUNDAY November 16th, 2008 at 8PM ET WITH SON PATRICK WAYNE |
|
John Wayne rose beyond the typical recognition for a famous actor to that of an enduring icon who symbolized and communicated American values and ideals. By the middle of his career, Wayne had developed a larger-than-life image, and as his career progressed, he selected roles that would not compromise his off-screen image. By the time of his last film The Shootist (1976), Wayne refused to allow his character to shoot a man in the back as was originally scripted. |

Possessing his father's durable good looks, vigor and charm, this tall, strapping, exceedingly handsome second son of John Wayne had huge boots to fill in trying to escape from his legendary father's shadow and corral Hollywood fame on his own terms. But attempt he did and, looking back, he may not have achieved outright stardom but certainly did quite admirably, making over 40 films in his career -- nine of them with his dad. |
